5 Starting Points to Social Media Marketing

So you need social media marketing. We give you 5 SUPER important tips to get started!

As we know, social media is a massive part of our lives. Whether it’s your mum browsing her Facebook, you browsing your instagram or your kids on Snapchat. Even your boss, utilizing his LinkedIn for new business opportunities. There’s no question about it, we the human race, love social media!

What that means for business is incredible. This enables smart business owners to fully harness social media in order to get right into their target market. Once this has been achieved we can place our product or service right in their face and then re-market to those who interacted looking to convert for a sale or business.

Mitchell Galvin, Director of Pixel Panther, shares with you 5 of his Ultimate tips to getting started on social media marketing.

Tip 1: Identify Your Audience

Pro-tip: “everyone” is not an audience. Please when going through identifying your audience highlight your key customers. There is always a demographic with your business and targeting everyone will be your first downfall.

Many brands spin their wheels because they don’t post content that speaks to a defined audience. Spend some time looking at your audience, understanding what their challenges are and what brands they already love via social.

If you are a service based business, i.e. a plumber. Have a look at your current customer base and how your business applies to them. Your target market would be home owners/property owners. You may be looking at a specific age demographic of 25-60 years old. Always do market research and analysis of the business before jumping into a marketing plan.

Tip 2: Piggyback on What’s Trending

The Champions League Final is coming up this weekend and what better than for your business to do a promotion based on that. I.e. book in for your boiler inspection this week and if Liverpool win the champions league we will offer a discount of no call out fee!

If you’re a brand for example you produce flavoured gins. Create a limited edition jam donut flavour edition before NationalDonutDay and run the product Ads two weeks before. Not only will this open the door to new customers who try your jam donut gin and enjoy it, you’re existing customers will have something to get excited about.

Tip 3: Don’t Be a Robot!

For me this is the MOST IMPORTANT tip of all. Be a human on social media. One of the worst mistakes to make on social media is coming off as the faceless corporation with zero personality. People want to see that you’re relatable. Show your customers and potentially new customers that you are a normal person just like them.

Don’t be faceless like some big corporations still do! Many brands today crack jokes and aren’t afraid to talk to their followers like they would their friends. Perhaps you could post a team photo or your workforce working/completing a project. Show the consumer something behind the scenes!

Tip 4: Don’t Be Afraid to Pay

Social Media – it’s free! Correct but don’t be fooled by this. Like it or not, social media at large isn’t the totally “free” channel it once was. While there’s still plenty that can be done organically, Facebook’s updated algorithm and new business features being rolled out Instagram signal a clear need for businesses to experiment with ads.

The good new is that when harnessed correctly the ROI you can achieve through these paid social media strategies is crazy! Getting ultimate value from your budget and out-performing on many old style marketing strategies.

Tip 5: Create Content People Actually Want to See

If you want to stand out on social media, you can’t just parrot the content everyone else is posting.

This means do your research and create something new and unique. Original content will help you with your SEO also and help you to engage customers with something new they haven’t seen before.

You should strive to post content that forces your followers to stop scrolling through their feed! There is many different posts they are flicking through so make it count!
